came up with the idea of a creative space especially for adolescent boys. One such initiative was taken on 22th March 2026 by Raju Hansda one of our trained teachers in Kasiadih village. On the 16th May 2026 a meeting was held at the child centered center in Kasiadih under his leadership. On this day Suraj Besra a teacher trainee identified 10 children from Birkhap village for the summer camp and brought them for the meeting. The 21 children shared their difficulties in English and Mathematics. The children desired to improve in these two subjects and they decided this as the topic for the summer camp and they would learn in a fun manner.
was one of the 26 children at the summer camp this year. Prem discovered a Parrot’s nest on a tree while on the terrace of the building where the summer camp was held and nurtured a secret desire to takes the chicks home when the camp is over. Unfortunately his plans were found out by Raju the teacher accompanying the 26 children. The youth learnt the importance of monitoring accompanied children through this experience.
On the 23rd of May 2026
was the day to leave for the summer camp 26 children from Kasiadih Bhadurlatwa and Birakhap turned up. They were accompanied by six youth teachers and their coordinator Philan Horo. The place this year for the summer camp was the Jesuit center Prerna Resource Center. Once the children reached the center and introduced to their dormitory they were all eager to sleep on the bunker beds on the top. The children had mosquito nets and a bed each which they enjoyed very much. After every session they would run to the dormitory to take pleasure in the comfort of the bed. Some lay on the smooth tiled staircases and enjoyed the smooth and shining surface of the floor.
23rd May 2026 first day began with a meditation led by Dilip Tudu followed with session in English language. Dilip used games; role plays; music and English exercises in groups where youth teachers assisted. All were encouraged to speak in English. Evening the youth took them to Hazaribagh Lake. Children learnt that in the city nothing is free one has to pay to have fun. On the 24th May 2026 after meditation Raju shared the importance of Mathematics in one’s life like in plowing the land; building one’s house; and many other things. Darshan Soren joined and he used games, used the Santhali and through group work the children learnt easily the difficulties they experienced in doing Mathematics formulas. In the evening children went to Canary hill.
On the last day 25th May 2026 Dilip led sessions in English language and in the evening the children returned to their homes. Children loved the camp and wanted to stay on longer.
Learning’s
Children learnt in practice what a balanced/adequate diet is; they learnt to overcome their fears to speak English; learnt discipline; learnt to think and utilize their own skills and saw children of their age going to School. The youth who accompanied them learnt how to maintain discipline; how to run classes; and how to prepare sessions for smooth running of sessions. The youth also learnt about parenting.
CASS learnt that the positive response of the children to the camp is a sure sign that children needed such a program. Their full participation and the smile on their faces after the camp reveal their deep desires had been met.
Way forward
CASS will continue this journey with these 26 children and walk along with them in facilitating their growth in different facets of their life. As they go along they will be joined by others similarly in need of guidance and improvements in foundational levels. Your support to this imitative will be appreciated
