Building a cohort of youth

Committed to improving learning levels in Indigenous children CASS has been making efforts to work with local indigenous youth who are the best material to transmit knowledge and information to Adivasi children in their community.

The main objectives of the two day workshop were:
To concentrate on self, to help focus
To understand the role of the teacher and to apply the same on oneself
To understand the child’s problem and find solutions 
To make learning attractive and creative; to develop the child’s potential and to open up the child’s mind 
To bring greater commitment among the youth who teach children 
To bring awareness among youth on child Rights

The Participant Profile: The number of participants was 21 their age was from 15years to 40 years. The quality of the youth has improved in their ability to teach children; there has been a reduce in drop-out rates. New to the training was Suraj Besra who is presently doing his B.Ed at Ramakrishna Ashrama Hazaribagh( 2025October –September 2027); Kushi(in School) ; Sunaina, Sunil, Sonia, Sanjay and Basanti(attended only two trainings)

Overview of the workshop: It was a two day residential workshop that took place at the Diocesan center Jan Vikas Kendra, Hazaribagh on 12th and 13th April 2026.

Learning’s from the Workshop 
- Place was good for the workshop; the topics were a felt need of the youth.

Way forward 
-Three layers of awareness building were identified: Teachers, guardians and children. It would be necessary to coordinate all three layers to reduce drop-out rates
