Supporting Children from Indigenous Communities since 1981.
Chotanagpur Adivasi Seva Samiti (CASS) is a community based organization whose main office is in Kasiadih (a Santhal Hamlet that is part of a large revenue village Sarwaha on highway number 33; 20 kilometers from nearest city Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, India). CASS was formed as a result of a felt need experienced by the local Santhal headmen for a social organization of indigenous persons to take forward the struggles of the Santhals in protecting their lands; forests and water resources and address their social issues. It was registered as a non- profit organization in 1991-92 in Bihar and in 2005-2006 in Jharkhand.
Our mandate includes working with children of the Indigenous Communities in the coal mining areas, of indigenous farmers, of coal pushers, those with health problems and school dropouts. Our endeavor is to support the children in accessing education, health care including mental health, sports, arts and cultural opportunities, legal help, life skills, technical and entrepreneurial skills. It is also to help them retain and grow with their indigenous knowledge and skills. The core value of the organization is rooted in children’s participation. We believe in children’s rights to be consulted and their views taken seriously on issues related to their lives. We empower children on democratic values. We hope they will grow up to be adults who believe and value equity, equality including gender equality, respect for different opinions and ideas, plurality and diversity, caste, religion, language and race.
